What Do You Think About COVID-19 Testing?

School Closing & Quarantine Decisions
There is not an automatic decision to close a school or quarantine a classroom just because of a certain amount of community transmission of COVID-19 or a certain number of positive cases within the school. Each situation is unique. Public Health participates in ongoing discussions with schools that are experiencing COVID-19 cases or outbreaks and provides guidance based on several factors including:
- the level of community transmission
- whether cases have been identified among students and staff
- if cases are identified, how many classrooms are affected
- percent absenteeism in the school
- student population being affected (i.e., age of students, classrooms affected, etc.)
- the model of instruction delivery and mitigation plans in place
- the importance of in-person education to the social, emotional, and academic growth and well-being of the student population
Ultimately, the decision to close a school rests with its administration and school board.
