Maricopa County Is Getting Personal Protective Equipment Where It’s Needed Most
|
|
Access to personal protective equipment has not always been easy during the pandemic, but Maricopa County Unified Command has worked hard to get PPE to those who need it most including long-term care facilities and, more recently, schools. To date, the County has distributed more than four million pieces of personal protective equipment, including 790,000 cloth masks the county bought and shipped directly to schools! |

3 Steps To Apply For Rental Or Utility Assistance
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved more than $36 million in CARES Act funding for rental assistance and another $6 million for utility assistance. On our website, you can apply for either or both in three easy steps:
-
Check eligibility. For both programs, monthly income must be at or below 300% of the federal poverty level which is $6,550 for a family of four.
-
Gather required documentation. For both programs, documentation is limited to speed along the process and includes a photo ID, proof of financial hardship due to COVID-19, and either a lease agreement or utility bill, depending on what you’re applying for.
-
Apply for assistance. You can submit applications online or through your local Community Action Program (CAP) office.

Best Ways To Protect Yourself
COVID-19 is still circulating in our community. That’s why it’s important to:
- Stay home and away from others when sick
- Keep at least six feet of distance between yourself and others whenever possible
- Wear a mask in enclosed public spaces and when you cannot maintain distance
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
- Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands frequently
People who are at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, like those age 65 and over and those with chronic medical conditions, should avoid being around others outside their household as much as possible.
As you make plans, you might want to ask yourself these five questions to help limit your exposure to the virus:

Flu Shot Misconceptions
You may hear misconceptions about the flu shot, including that it causes flu illness or increases your risk for other respiratory viruses like COVID-19. These claims are false. Flu vaccines have a good safety record. Hundreds of millions of Americans have safely received flu vaccines over the past 50 years, and there has been extensive research supporting the effectiveness of flu vaccines. Now is the time to get your flu vaccine for the season. Your body takes two weeks to develop antibodies after getting the vaccine so you want to get it before flu is circulating widely in Maricopa County.
Visit Maricopa.gov/flu to see where flu vaccine is available. New dates and locations are being added as we have them. It’s especially important for young children, older adults, and those with chronic medical conditions, as they are at the highest risk for severe illness due to influenza.

Have you completed your 2020 Census? You’ll need to get it done this month. The census is the official count of how many people live in our community and determines how much federal funding we’ll receive for key transportation, education, and health care projects over the next decade.
