The Maricopa County Serosurvey Team reached its goal last week with 169 households voluntarily participating in the effort. This means that we have enough information to estimate what percentage of people in Maricopa County were likely infected with COVID-19 based on a representative sample using CDC methods. It will take about one month to analyze the data.
We are grateful for all of those who participated in the serosurvey, the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time and expertise, and to our partners at ASU and Mayo Clinic for making this public health outreach a success.

I Have COVID-19. Should I Go To The Hospital?

However, people who chronic health conditions or more severe cases of the virus may need medical treatment. If you feel like your symptoms are worsening, especially if you have difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider or seek medical attention.

Stay Healthy And See Your Healthcare Provider
Don’t skip a visit to the doctor during the pandemic. Whether you need to be seen for preventative care, for chronic health conditions, or for mental health needs, it’s important to make and keep appointments with your health care provider. Have You Scheduled Your Flu Vaccination?
Good health is worth a shot. Protecting people you love is worth a shot. And helping our frontline health care workers is worth a shot, too. We’re talking about the flu shot, of course, a proven way to reduce your risk of getting influenza. In 2018-2019, vaccination prevented an estimated 4.4. million flu cases. That’s not all. People who still get the flu have a better chance of having a milder version of it, meaning fewer hospital stays and less burden on our health care system.
There are three options for getting a flu shot this year:
- Children 6 months through 18 years of age can receive free flu shots at one of our immunization clinics on weekdays (Monday-Friday) by making an appointment.
- If you have insurance, check with your health care provider or locate a flu shot clinic near you using Vaccine Finder.
- If you are uninsured or underinsured, visit maricopa.gov/flu to find a community event where adults and children can receive a FREE flu shot. These free events are open to ALL in the community, including those with insurance.

How Many COVID-19 Cases Have Been Linked To Outbreaks At K-12 Schools?
Public Health is working with schools to provide guidance and support in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak. An outbreak in a school is defined as having two or more PCR-positive cases of COVID-19 among students or staff within a 14-day period. These cases must be “epi-linked” (i.e., could have reasonably come into contact with each other in school) and must not share a household.
As of today, there have been 13 school outbreaks, with a total of 52 cases linked to those outbreaks (38 in students and 14 in staff).

You have less than 30 days to complete your 2020 Census. The census is the official count of how many people live in our community and it determines how much federal funding we’ll receive for key projects over the next decade. Completing the Census is easy, secure, and important. Will you help ensure we have a complete count?
