Your Neighborhood Gym Or Favorite Bar Might Be Open This Weekend. Why Now?
Under three key metrics established by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), COVID-19 spread in Maricopa County is now considered “moderate.” That means gyms, movie theaters, water parks, and bars and nightclubs that serve food can begin to reopen with limited capacity and other restrictions. They do not need to submit an application to reopen; they just have to fill out a form on the ADHS website, stating they will follow the rules set by the State in its phased reopening plan. Once the form is submitted, they can reopen.

What If I Notice A Business That’s Not Following The Rules?
There are different rules for each type of business. If you believe a business is not complying with state guidelines, you can submit a complaint online at azhealth.gov/complianceCOVID19 or you can call the COVID-19 Compliance Hotline at 1-844-410-2157.
Most complaints regarding capacity issues will go through ADHS, local law enforcement (non-emergency), or the local fire marshal. Maricopa County Environmental Services Department will continue to respond to complaints related to restaurants.
Most complaints will be handled as an opportunity to educate the business, rather than to issue a citation, but repeated violations could result in penalties.

How Can I Find Information About Covid-19 Spread In My Community?
Maricopa County Public Health has created a dashboard that allows you to search data by city, zip code, or school district. The dashboard tracks COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people; percentage of positive tests; and percentage of COVID-like illness. These are the three metrics schools are using to determine whether it’s safe to offer in-person classes. Maricopa County has seen a decrease in all three measurements in recent weeks.

Two Weeks of Data
When looking at the school dashboard, it’s important to remember that Maricopa County Public Health is making recommendations based on two full weeks of data. Even though an area's most recent week may show significant improvement, two weeks of data provides evidence of a sustained trend.

Working Together, Saving Lives
Maricopa County cares about dogs and cats, so when we heard that the Arizona Humane Society was in a tough spot due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Unified Command stepped into help by donating 10,000 much-needed gowns to staff who need them to safely treat sick, injured, and abused animals.
