It’s So Hot. Is There Any Alternative To Wearing A Mask?
|
|
Wearing a cloth face mask in the record heat we’ve been experiencing can be uncomfortable. However, Public Health wants to remind you that it is safe to do, and provides proven protection against COVID-19. There is no evidence that wearing a mask impacts oxygen levels; a well-fitted mask should allow adequate airflow. Cloth face masks are recommended by the CDC for everyday use, but not all masks are created equal (see graphic below). |

Symptoms In Kids
As school starts, parents and teachers will be asked to be extra vigilant in watching for COVID-19 symptoms in their children. Remember: symptoms may be different in children than in adults. For example, children are less likely than adults to have fever with COVID-19 and more likely to have non-respiratory symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. It is important to recognize many common illnesses have similar symptoms. Whether it’s COVID-19 or not, if your child is sick, they should stay home.

If you haven’t been tested yet, you still have a chance. We are planning more than a dozen additional testing events in the coming weeks. Visit Maricopa.gov/COVID19Testing to find an event near you.

Testing By The Numbers
The Arizona Department of Health Services tracks the amount of testing done across the state. More than 1.3 million tests have been performed since the beginning of the pandemic, with testing peaking in late June. At the peak, more than 20,000 tests were being reported across Arizona each day. In recent weeks, that number has been around 10,000. During that same period, the percentage of positive tests has also fallen, from 20% of all PCR diagnostic tests coming back positive in late June to 6% coming back positive last week.
