How Is Public Health Helping Schools Reopen Safely?
Maricopa County Public Health provides guidelines to help school district boards make informed decisions based on the latest information about COVID-19 and how it spreads between people. Public Health cannot make decisions for schools, but the department
is consulting with local school districts and providing recommendations tailored to their specific situations.
Ultimately, school policy is up to school boards and administrators at the local level, and the Department of Education at the state level. Benchmarks for schools to reopen for in-person classes are expected to be released by the state later this week.

Why Are More Covid-19 Deaths Being Reported If Daily Case Counts Are Going Down?
Hospitalizations and deaths typically lag reported cases by a few weeks. Many people who pass away from COVID-19 spend time in the hospital first. Our peak in cases seems to have happened in early July, meaning we are seeing more deaths being reported now. Some of these deaths are recent; others may have happened days or even weeks ago.
