Election’s Department Provides Details On Primary Election Plans
The August Primary Election is just six weeks away! Maricopa County election officials provide an update on the Primary Election plans in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maricopa County’s Elections Department has made it easier for voters to request a ballot in the mail and has expanded in-person voting options through a Vote Center model. All voting locations will be large enough to allow physical distancing and will have heightened safety measures, designed in consultation with the County’s Department of Public Health.
Voting by Mail
The August 2020 Voter Options campaign informs voters about the safety, security and accessibility of voting by mail and in-person voting.
The Board of Supervisors approved new mask regulations that took effect on Saturday, June 20, 2020. This regulation creates consistent minimum mask-wearing requirements across all jurisdictions while allowing cities and towns to set their own policies and regulations related to face coverings.
Some highlights from the regulation include:
People older than six must wear masks in enclosed public spaces
Adults with children 2 to 5 years old must make reasonable effort to make them wear masks inside enclosed public spaces
All riders and operators on public transportation must wear a mask
Staff working in public spaces (such as restaurants or stores) must wear masks
The regulations include exemptions from wearing masks that include:
People in homes
Children under 2 years old
Restaurant patrons while they are eating and drinking
People walking or exercising outdoors (while maintaining six feet of distance)
When in a personal vehicle, office or other personal space
The county’s community emergency notification system (CENS) is designed to rapidly notify an affected area of an emergency by sending an alert through the telephone system. Potential uses can include local alerts about emergencies such as major fires, public safety threats, flash floods, hazardous materials, etc.
