How Maricopa County Coordinates Emergency Response
During a large-scale emergency, residents rely on the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management, whether they know it or not. Emergency Management coordinates response and recovery activities during and after emergencies, whether natural or man-made. Our teams work with cities, towns, and fire districts to coordinate public communications, resources, and more so that government functions can continue and communities are protected.

Is the County Still Actively Responding to COVID-19?
Emergency Management and Public Health staff continue to respond to the COVID-19 emergency as part of the Maricopa County Unified Command. This command structure has a number of specific objectives, including:
- Conduct COVID-19 case investigations and contact tracing.
- Support long-term care and other congregate facilities with infection prevention and control measures and PPE when they have a positive
COVID-19 case.
- Support Maricopa County mass care initiatives including planning respite locations for symptomatic homeless individuals and individuals in congregate settings, and providing areas for social distancing and hydration for those who are unhoused.
Planning for other potential threats—including floods, dust storms, and any incidents at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station—is ongoing and not affected by COVID-19 or any other current emergencies.
