COVID-19 Data: What to Watch For
With more testing being done, public health officials are expecting a spike in the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the coming days. At first glance, this may seem alarming. However, case counts are not the only data we have to assess what is happening in our community. Maricopa County Public Health will remain focused on the data represented in the hospitalization epi curve, which is not impacted by the amount of testing done for the general public. The curve continues to remain relatively flat. Currently, about 16% of COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County have required hospitalization, down from 20% a few weeks ago, and about 4% are requiring ICU care, which is down from 6% a few weeks ago This reflects more people with mild illness getting tested.
Heat Relief Network
On this day of potentially record heat, don’t forget about cooling and hydration stations set up across the Valley. MAG’s heat relief network has been activated. You can find a map of locations on their website, or you can download Emergency Management’s “Ready Maricopa” app and have the information easily accessible from the palm of your hand.
