Why Case Counts Don't Tell The Whole Story
Public Health provides daily updates on the number of COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County. However, these counts do not tell the full story. Due to limited testing availability, case counts only represent people who seek care and get diagnosed. Many people with severe disease get tested. Not everyone with mild disease is able to get tested. This means the total number of cases is likely higher than reported. At the same time, the data likely over-represents severe cases. For example, today's data shows 18% of all cases had to be admitted to the hospital. However, that percentage is based only on the smaller number of individuals who have been tested and does not include those who might have milder symptoms.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Many of you may be wondering when a bad cough or fever rises to the level of calling the doctor these days. The CDC has a symptom self-checker that can help you make an informed decision. You can also look at the checklist below.

Commercial Testing
People who believe they should be tested for COVID-19 should work with their healthcare provider. While testing availability is limited, there are some commercial testing options available.
