SB 1135 - First law for the 2020 Legislative Session

Chucri testifying

In my last newsletter, I mentioned that I had testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee regarding SB 1135 (Chapter 1).  I am happy to report this was the first bill Governor Ducey signed for the 2020 legislative session.  This bill was important this year to help Maricopa County run a timely, efficient, fair, and transparent election.

Newly-Appointed County Assessor Eddie Cook

Eddie Cook

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Gilbert Councilman Eddie Cook as Maricopa County Assessor. Eddie Cook is the right leader at the right time and the public can feel confident in his commitment to exceptional customer service. During his time on the Gilbert Town Council, he not only helped Gilbert advance its business practices, he also helped build a stronger organizational culture.

2nd Amendment Preservation Resolution

Constitution

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted on a 2nd Amendment Preservation Resolution. I believe this resolution is a reaffirmation of the oaths of office I took in 2012 and 2016 to support the Constitution of the United States, the State of Arizona and the laws of Arizona.

New USS AZ Memorial Opens at SRPMIC

USS Arizona

I attended the Opening Ceremony of the USS Arizona SRPMIC Memorial Gardens Grand Opening. The Salt River Pima Indian Community (SRPMIC) became the recipient of the USS Arizona's original boathouse.  It was a part of the memorial built at Pearl Harbor in 1951, and the only piece to ever be given to a tribal community. This is a beautiful memorial in honor of those who lost their lives. Martin Harvier, SRPMIC President, encourages everyone to come and visit. This is located at 7455 N. Pima Road (between Great Wolf lodge AZ & Salt River Fields at Talking Stick)
