Tribal Grants to Help At-Risk Populations

Chairman Chucri: Grants Will Improve Quality of Life in Maricopa County

PHOENIX, Ariz. – November 29, 2018 – The collaboration between Maricopa County and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) continues this year with Board approval of another round of grants from SRPMIC.  More than 20 organizations focused on health, education, homelessness and substance abuse received grants.

“Partnerships like this one are a force multiplier that can help us improve quality of life in our community in ways we couldn’t do alone,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Chucri, District 2.  “SRPMIC has worked closely with my team for several years and I'm pleased they have agreed to fund more proven programs to help at-risk populations.”

Grant recipients include:

Arizona Heart Foundation

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to the fight against cardiovascular disease through professional education and public awareness.

Circle the City

Creates and delivers innovative healthcare solutions that compassionately address the needs of men, women, and children facing homelessness.

A New Leaf

A New Leaf serves individuals with resources, including homeless and domestic violence shelters with services, affordable housing solutions, youth services, foster care, counseling, financial literacy, neighborhood economic development, workforce support, and community services. 

Community Bridges

A provider that focuses on a continuum of care that begins with prevention and continues for individuals and families through treatment and recovery.

Maricopa County Human Services Department

The Maricopa County Human Services Department offers wide-ranging services to those in need, with grant money from SRPMIC going to continue a program that provides home rehabilitation for veterans with disabilities.  Chairman Chucri helped facilitate the “Home Improvement for Heroes” program in Maricopa County with the goal of improving daily life for veterans with cognitive and mobility issues.

“The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community chooses wisely, funds generously, and partners reliably.  This round of grants is no different,” said Chucri.  “All of these grant recipients are trusted partners of Maricopa County that share our commitment to serving the underserved."
