Supervisors Approve Final FY 2018 Budget
On Monday, after a period of public comment, my colleagues and I approved the county’s final FY 2018 budget (not to be confused with the “tentative” budget mentioned in a previous e-newsletter).

In addition to reallocations between departments, last minute changes were made to the budget as a result of the City of Mesa’s recent decision to send misdemeanor offenders to a privately operated jail. While fully within Mesa’s purview to do so, Maricopa County projects a $4.2 million loss for FY 2018 – increasing to $5.5 million – once Mesa’s private-jail operations are fully implemented. For more about the impact, read my comments here.
