The AFHE Convention Committee is hard at work preparing the 2016 AFHE Convention for you! We have chosen speakers who will encourage and equip you, covering topics that include early education, getting started, homeschooling high school, teaching children with special needs, a vision for why we homeschool, practical nuts and bolts sessions on a variety of subjects, and so much more!
You'll find the exhibit hall filled with hundreds of great vendor booths offering a wide array of quality products, resources, curriculum, and services. It is sure to be a fun weekend overflowing with inspiration and ideas as we come together to learn and grow.

In addition to our free pre-convention "Considering Homeschooling" mini-conference, we are offering two additional tracks on Thursday ... one for Homeschooling High School and the other on Homeschooling a Child with Special Needs. Each of these additional tracks is just $10 per person (adult) to attend. If you aren't able to attend the whole convention, this is a great way to get a sampling of some of the great workshops that will be presented during the convention.

Arizona Science Center offers a variety of home school opportunities for students from September through May.
Classes are 90 minutes long. There are extended classes, which are two hours long, and noted in the class description. Classes that will be taught by a state certified educator are denoted with an asterisk (*).

Constellation Exploration
This class will introduce students to basic astronomy and learn about the stories and legends that inspired the constellations we know today. Students will also create their own take-home constellation boxes. Classes available on April 12 and April 14, 2016. Recommended for grades 2 – 5.

Space Science
The solar system, comets and the moon are all discussed as the students take their journey through space. Students are able to weigh themselves on planet scales as they learn more about gravity and mass of each planet. A comet is even made with the ingredients necessary to form a dirty snowball. Homeschool Science Fair
May 21, 2016
$5 registration fee
Students will display their experiments and display boards to their peers and other Arizona Science Center guests.
Please plan to arrive at Arizona Science Center by 8:30 a.m. to set up displays. Students will have approximately one hour to give presentations to each other and/or provide peer review. Arizona Science Center opens to the public at 10 a.m. at which time students will be able to present their projects to guests, if they so choose.
The science fair will end at 11 a.m. with a “participation” awards ceremony, then displays can be cleaned up and taken back home.

Spend the day outdoors Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 during the annual Arizona Game and Fish Outdoor Expo at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, on Carefree Highway, just west of Interstate 17.
Admission and parking are free!
There will be plenty of hands-on fun for all ages. Check out the huge kids fishing tanks and take home a free photo. See live wildlife, learn target archery and try other shooting sports in a safe, supervised, controlled environment on the range.
Don’t miss the always popular cowboy mounted shooting competition or the off-highway vehicle exhibits. Give kayaking a try at the "Lake Paddlemore" kayaking pond. Learn about boating and how to stay safe on the water.
Visit with more than 150 exhibitors, including outdoor recreation and conservation groups, government agencies and commercial vendors of outdoor products and services.

BEFORE SUMMER: Make and Race Cars!
We are running one more Mike's Mighty Mites social group before
it gets too hot for the park. Your child will get to paint and decorate a
wooden race car, followed by racing it down the steep sidewalk hill. Each child
will get to take home the car they make, plus they will earn a small golden
trophy for their creative efforts and willingness to get along with the other

DiscovEARy Zone Hearing Loss Prevention Exhibit
Join us for DiscovEARy Zone (DZ), a free, 60-minute interactive and educational exhibit designed to teach children and parents about the ear, how we hear, sources of sounds that are dangerous to our hearing, effects on listening to sounds that are too loud for too long, and how to protect our ears and hearing throughout our lifespan. Includes guided educational activities, interactive computer games, giant displays, hands-on activities, and much more! We are offering a unique event on April 27th that stimulates STEM leaning through hands-on workshops and a simulated space mission.
There is no registration for this event, we will take all walk-ins the day of the event, families and students can pay the general admission at the door.
