FY 2016 Tentative Budget Funds Uses: $2,234,405,833
The
Board of Supervisors recently passed a $2.2 billion tentative budget for
2016. This year we’ve faced several serious
challenges, however as a county we have rolled up our sleeves – and tightened
our belts, so to speak – in order to meet these challenges head on. Read the full press release online. Following a period of public feedback, we plan to adopt the final budget on June 22.
County Personnel
Reform Bill
Governor Doug Ducey signed
the county personnel reform bill on June 1, 2015. This reform bill is an
outgrowth of our stakeholder task forces and allows the county greater
flexibility in hiring and maintaining top notch staff.
With County Manager Tom Manos, Representative Doug Coleman, Governor Doug Ducey, and Chairman Steve Chucri
Pillars of Honor
Each year, the
County holds a ceremony recognizing employees in three areas:
Service, Salute, and Sacrifice. The
Service pillar is for employees who have retired with 30 or more years of
service to the county. The Salute pillar
honors employees who have received national recognition for their work as a
Maricopa County employee. The
Sacrifice pillar honors employees who have died in the line of duty with
Maricopa County or on active military duty while serving as an employee of
Maricopa County. The pillars, located in
front of the Board of Supervisor's auditorium, are currently etched with 306
names with 31 more names to be added following this year's ceremony.

Employee Spotlight: Fields Moseley
We appreciate all our employees that have dedicated much of
their professional life to serving the residents of Maricopa County. However, this month I wanted to highlight one
of our newest county employees.
Fields Moseley was recently hired as the County’s Communications
Director; a position responsible for developing strategies and leading a team
focused on reaching citizens through traditional and social media. Fields comes from a long career in broadcast
news and brings a depth of knowledge and experience in media. Prior to joining the county, Fields was a
news anchor and reporter for KTVK-3TV and even received an Emmy for a story he
produced locally.
During his first week on
the job we had him in budget meetings and talking to the press about the county
personnel reform changes. Clearly he is a quick learner and we are
excited to have him on the team.

After last year’s record-breaking monsoon season, the Flood
Control District of Maricopa County is urging valley residents to be “flood
smart” this summer.
Flood Awareness Video
Monsoon season officially
starts June 15th and it is important that all residents understand their risk
of flooding and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their
property this summer.
This monsoon season the Flood Control District encourages
you to:
-
Be prepared by purchasing flood insurance and taking steps
to protect your home.
-
Be safe by avoiding flooded intersections and washes.
-
Be informed by checking the Weather Outlook and flood
forecasts available at www.fcd.maricopa.gov.
Each day during Flood Awareness Week, the District
will provide information and videos on their web and social media sites on how
the public can prepare for flood emergencies. Check out the Flood Awareness Infographics for more
information on how you can be prepared for this monsoon season.
We
have worked for over a year with our counterparts in the Town of Gilbert to craft
an agreement to convey a large flood control parcel over to Gilbert for a
future use as a multi-use recreational amenity.
The Chandler Heights Basin, located just south of Queen Creek on Higley
Road, is 211 acres. This partnership is
truly a win-win for the county, town, and the taxpayers.
