ANNOUNCEMENTS

Transportation Ambassador Program (TAP)
Save the date for the next TAP Meeting for November 19, 2024, from 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom, registration is free. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information and resources regarding human services transportation for older adults and persons with disabilities. Presentations will include updates from Valley Metro, the City of Phoenix, and an Agency Spotlight.  You can register for the TAP meeting now with the registration link.

The Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities is hosting a webinar regarding voters’ rights and accommodations for people with disabilities. The webinar is scheduled for September 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Arizona time. Speakers will include representatives from Pima County and Disability Rights Arizona to educate attendees on available accommodations for the voting process. The webinar is free and can be registered for by following this link

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is hosting the third webinar in their 2023-2024 Symposium Series. This series is aimed at gathering input on how to better support and fully empower all individuals who support children and youth with disabilities and their families with post-education transitions. This webinar will focus on collaboration between special education, vocational rehabilitation, and centers for independent living. The webinar is scheduled for September 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is free to attend. Registration can be completed by following this link.

The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department recently completed the state’s first all abilities and inclusive playground. The Encanto Park playground was realized in collaboration with City pf Phoenix Council District 4, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Kiwanis Club of Phoenix.  Landscape Structures was contracted to make the community dream come to fruition. The park features all ADA accessible playground equipment for people of all abilities to enjoy. Watch the news story about the park here.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) has announced a funding opportunity for the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Applicable projects include the development and implementation of digital inclusion activities, the implementation of applied digital skills training programs, workforce development programs, among others. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on October 22, 2024. More information about this funding opportunity can be found at this link.

 


TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

The ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center announced a new online training for respite care providers. The training will include ten core competencies that serve as a baseline for the delivery of quality respite services in the community. The training is free and available in a toolkit in both English and Spanish. The curriculum can be requested by filling out this form.

The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADTC) is hosting a free webinar focused on living with younger onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The webinar will emphasize the importance of creating a support network to help with changes in communication and the common experience of those living with younger onset Alzheimer’s disease. The workshop will be held on September 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Registration can be completed by following this link.

The Center for Independent Living is hosting a free webinar on connecting people with disabilities to employment opportunities. Three agencies will share how the work they do increases access to competitive and integrated employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The webinar is on September 10, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. More information and registration can be found at this link.

 


MAG HOSTED WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS

MAG offers monthly human services transportation provider trainings and workshops facilitated by subregional mobility managers. The trainings and workshops cover topics such as drivers’ safety, fleet management, and include an opportunity to discuss current service providers topics.

Hiring and Retention Focus Group
Save the date for a Hiring and Retention Focus Group schedule for September 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The focus group is free to attend. Subregional mobility managers will share national best practices on hiring and retention, and lead discussion on strategies that are working on a regional level. Registration can be completed by following this link.

TAP Recognition Nominations

Nominations are now open to recognize an Outstanding Driver or staff member Years of Service at your agency. Selected nominees will be recognized at the TAP meeting in August. Nomination forms for Outstanding Drivers and Years of Service are also available on our website. Nominations are due November 11, 2024. We greatly appreciate the support you provide for our community members!
