Regional Analytics Digest | August 2024 | Maricopa Association of Governments
Inside this Issue:

Proposition 479

Proposition 479 is the proposed continuation of an existing half-cent sales tax in Maricopa County used to fund transportation infrastructure investments. Proposition 479 will appear on the November 2024 ballot. A "yes" vote extends the tax until 2045; a "no" vote will discontinue the tax at the end of 2025. You can learn more about the investment plan that serves as the basis for transportation investments funded through Proposition 479 at https://azmag.gov/Prop479.

Maps and Data Training

MAG’s Regional Analytics Division (RAD) collects, builds, and maintains a wide variety of regional and state datasets that we also make available to the public in the form of maps, data dashboards, infographics, and reports, but do you know how to find and use them? No worries! We offer free training workshops to guide you and get you started. Plus, not only do we show you how to navigate through our powerful Arizona Demographics map, but we also give you hands-on exercises for you to practice on your own and keep for reference. The last three public maps and data training sessions for 2024 will be August 22, September 19, and October 24. Sign up today at https://maps.azmag.gov/trainings.

Housing Data Explorer Update

The Housing Data Explorer has been updated with Q2 2024 data through June of this year. This interactive dashboard visualizes data and summarizes trends in housing and affordability for the region. It includes data on sales, apartment rent, evictions, cost-burdened households, and more for select geographies. The next update will be Q4 2024 data and will be available early next year.

Land Use Explorer Update

The MAG Land Use Explorer has been updated with our latest data. With this tool, you can find information on existing land use, development status, and land ownership (private versus various public agencies) for Maricopa and Pinal counties. Future updates will include further enhancements to add information on developability, general plan land use information, and more.

Heat Relief Continues

During another summer of record-breaking heat, the Heat Relief Network encourages anyone seeking heat relief to utilize the Heat Relief Locator on their mobile device. After entering an address, ZIP code, city or by using their current location, the user can view a list of the nearest cooling and respite centers, filter by what is currently open, and get directions. The Heat Relief Network will be active through September and can also be used to find locations accepting water bottle donations.
