Serving Those Who Serve Our Country
ADOT’s Motor Vehicle Division Assists Returning Soldiers
PHOENIX – They came back to cheers, smiles and tearful hugs. For the past 12 months, the soldiers of the 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion served their country in Iraq.
Those soldiers recently came home to Fort Huachuca as husbands and wives, moms and dads—after spending a year away from home in southern Arizona. Now they need assistance getting back to basics.
“These soldiers provided communications for intelligence and operations, as well as training the Iraqi Army,” said Col. Patrick Dedham, Brigade Commander, 11th Signal Brigade. “They’ve been away for 12 months, so there’s a lot of things that a soldier needs to do when they get back. First they need to reintegrate into their life as a soldier at Fort Huachuca. There’s also all the administrative things they need to do.”
The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division provided the assistance the 300 soldiers need by bringing MVD services directly to them after they arrived home on June 6. MVD customer service representatives were on hand for the Reverse Soldier Readiness Process event in Sierra Vista to assist with driver license issues and vehicle title and registration concerns.
MVD employees can handle everything on site, except for processing. For that final step, a soldier is given a return letter they can take to their nearest MVD office. The letter expedites service at a branch office and takes the soldier to the front of the line.
“These men and women put everything on hold to serve their country, and when they come back home our goal is to make it easier for them to get back to what’s important—their family, their friends, their lives,” said Stacey Stanton, director of ADOT’s Motor Vehicle Division. “This is a program that MVD is proud to be a part of, and it’s our way to give back to those who’ve done so much for us.”
