KINGMAN – The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a construction project to widen and improve a three-mile segment of US 93, about 20 miles north of Wikieup.
The $20 million project includes building new lanes to provide motorists with a four-lane divided highway. The Antelope Wash segment (mileposts 101.1 to 104.2) is expected to be completed in summer 2015.
Crews are scheduled to install a barrier wall along the shoulder of the southbound lanes Tuesday, March 11 through Thursday, March 13. Flagging stations will be in place to accommodate construction trucks hauling materials within the work zone. While crews continue to prepare to build the new southbound lanes, most of the work is taking place off the main roadway.
The current construction schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and drivers should allow 10 to 15 minutes extra travel time. Additional delays may occur on weekends due to heavier traffic volumes and special events — including spring break from mid-March through late April.
The US 93 series of projects is a priority for ADOT and has become a significant addition to our state highway system to move people, goods and services more efficiently. Since the late 1990s, 19 improvement projects on US 93, from the Santa Maria River to Interstate 40, have been completed. Two widening projects remain to complete this section. The Carrow-Stephens section, mileposts 119.7 to 116.3, is currently in design. Design for the Cane Springs section, mileposts 106.0 to 108.9, is scheduled for 2016.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions. Unscheduled restrictions or closures may occur. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at az511.gov or call 511.
