Heavy traffic expected on Interstate 15 due to NASCAR event this week
ADOT advises drivers traveling through Virgin River Gorge to allow extra travel time

PHOENIX — With a NASCAR racing event (March 6-9) expected to attract a huge gathering of fans this week at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Arizona Department of Transportation is urging motorists traveling on Interstate 15 in the far northwest corner of Arizona to allow extra travel time as the anticipated increase in traffic moves through construction zones.

ADOT is currently working on a series of bridge rehabilitation projects along the I-15 Virgin River Gorge corridor in Arizona. Motorists traveling between Mesquite, Nevada, and St. George, Utah, should plan ahead for delays in both directions through the work zones.

Traffic on I-15 is narrowed to one lane in each direction at Virgin River Bridge No. 2 and Bridge No. 3 (both at milepost 13, approximately 15 miles north of Mesquite) and Bridge No. 7 (milepost 22, approximately 15 miles south of St. George) to allow work on the southbound bridge deck surfaces.

ADOT is anticipating heavy traffic on southbound I-15 Friday afternoon, March 7 and on northbound I-15 all day on Sunday, March 9.

With limited alternate routes due to the remote location of the I-15 Virgin River Gorge corridor, ADOT urges drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, slow down and drive carefully through the work zone, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
