Construction of raised medians on SR 92 in Sierra Vista moves to Phase 2 next week

The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin construction of raised medians on State Route 92 between Monsanto Drive and Canyon de Flores next week.

Work is nearing completion on the first section of raised medians – from Glenn Road to Monsanto Drive – and work is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 4 on the second phase of the project.

Lane restrictions will be in place around the clock on SR 92 starting just south of Buffalo Soldier Trail and continuing to Monsanto Drive until the project is complete in late December. Crews will construct the raised median on weekdays from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

During the second phase of the project, the newly constructed roundabout at the junction of Canyon de Flores and East Golden Acres Drive will provide an alternative to making U-turns around the median. The left turn access for eastbound SR 92 traffic at Monsanto will be closed during portions of the project.

The posted speed limit through the work area will be reduced to 35 mph when crews are on site and 45 mph when crews are not working. When the project is complete, the speed limit on SR 92 will be 45 mph between Canyon de Flores and Glenn Road.

The project is designed to enhance safety for motorists by restricting left turns entering and exiting SR 92 in the heavily traveled commercial area.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
