 The Curtis Family Summer 2013
The Curtis family has been cleaning up their Adopt a Highway section in the Navajo Nation for 20 years. This year, Curtis family members came from New Mexico and Nevada to participate in a cleanup with more than 50 of their relatives. Visit our blog to read more ... The Curtis family spent five hours on their section along State Route 264 and picked up more than 85 bags of trash. Ron Curtis says this work is something his family can do together and he says he hopes they are a positive role model for motorists. Curtis family members follow the Safety Briefing, young children do not participate in roadside litter cleanups and all volunteers wear ANSI Class II vests.
 Tea Time?
On Interstate -10 eastbound about half way between Tucson and Benson you may see the Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society (SAEMS) Adopt a Highway sign. These volunteers have been with the ADOT Adopt a Highway Volunteer program for more than a decade. Because picking up roadside litter can be hard work, this group pitches in for a gift card to award the volunteer who discovers the most unusual item. Al Jorissen won it in February last year when he found a princess tea set and tea pot. That's him on the right with his pals (from the left) Mike Block and Ken Asch. Thanks to Barbara Ricca, the SAEMS treasurer for this nice picture. |
 Our New Website...
The ADOT website has a brand new look and the Adopt a Highway pages have changed too. We continue to improve and update and always look forward to hearing from you at adoptahighway@azdot.gov.
We've simplified the Activity Report. Now you just enter your permit number to begin. This report is the only way we track your efforts. Please remember to continue to let us know before you head out to work on your section and after your work is finished.
Thank You ADOT Adopt a Highway Volunteers!
ADOT Adopt a Highway Volunteer program permit holders, we count on you to always let your ADOT district contact person know your plans BEFORE you go on a cleanup. The ADOT contact person is the individual listed on your permit. Please pay attention to the weather in your area so you know what to expect.
Do you know what to do if you are surprised by a massive dust storm or haboob?
Visit pullasidestayalive.org for information about how to stay safe.
Please read your Safety Briefing before every cleanup. Please stay at least six feet from the roadway, and remember it's always good to have a lookout and to work facing oncoming traffic. |
