Paving and ramp work continues on Interstate 10 between Valencia Road and Rita Road in Tucson

Daytime work hours begin Friday due to lower nighttime temperatures

The Arizona Department of Transportation continues repaving a segment of Interstate 10 in Tucson. Crews will intermittently close one lane and the entrance and exit ramps on eastbound and westbound I-10 from Rita Road to Valencia Road until mid-November 2012.

During the final weeks of construction, warmer weather is required while the upper layer of pavement is applied; therefore beginning Friday, Oct. 19, work crews will work during daytime hours to complete the project.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

The following overnight work will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning:

  • The eastbound I-10 exit and entrance ramps at Craycroft Road will be closed.
  • The westbound I-10 exit entrance ramp at Craycroft Road will be closed.

  • The left lane of west bound I-10 will be closed from Valencia Road to Rita Road.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

The following work will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • The left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed from Valencia Road to Rita Road.

During the ramp closures, drivers may use the eastbound and westbound entrance and exit ramps at the adjacent intersections. Message boards and signs will guide drivers through the area.

The work is part of ADOT’s $3.4 million project for continued improvements on I-10 that includes removing the existing top layer of pavement, repairing the concrete pavement beneath the top layer, applying a new, smooth driving surface with rubberized asphalt, installing new roadway markings and reconstructing guardrails along this segment of the highway.

The schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, availability of materials, and mechanical difficulties. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through or near work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
