TUCSON — The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration invite the community to an open house regarding a study aimed at enhancing traffic flow at the Interstate 19 and Ruby Road traffic interchange and along the I-19 east frontage road from Ruby Road to Rio Rico Drive.
Date: Thursday, May 10
Time 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (presentation at 5:45)
Location: Esplendor Resort
1069 Camino Caralampi
Rio Rico, AZ 85648
Phone: 520-281-1901
ADOT is working closely with local jurisdictions, including the community of Rio Rico, Santa Cruz County, and the City of Nogales and looks forward to receiving community input as information is being gathered for the study. The community’s comments, questions and concerns will help the study team develop the right solutions for this community:
-
The study purpose is to improve traffic flow and meet current and future traffic needs in this area.
-
It will evaluate existing peak-hour traffic and prepare recommendations for potential capacity, access and safety improvements that will accommodate forecasted growth through the year 2040.
-
The study began in February 2012 and final recommendations are anticipated by late 2013.
The east frontage road provides sole access to a warehouse district that is used by commercial trucks transporting goods along U.S.-Mexico trade routes. Residential traffic and school buses are also present in the area, traveling between the east and west sides of I-19. During peak periods, traffic demand exceeds the capacity at the Ruby Road traffic interchange, causing congestion in the area.
At the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to:
-
View displays showing the project area
-
Talk with project team members who can address questions and concerns
-
Provide comments on the study
