BABMT   NEWS FROM OUR NETWORK

Innovation Exchange - TribesInnovative Tools for Transportation Data Collection and Sharing in Tribal Communities| Nov. 21, 2024

In recognition of Native American Heritage month, this webinar will showcase innovative tools being used in Tribal communities for data collection in transportation planning and data sharing in construction management. Participants will hear from the Northern Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) Center on results from a recently completed innovation project with the Northern Cheyenne and Crow nations using digital video recorders to collect network data. They will demonstrate this data collection technology as well as how the data can be used to assess roadway safety vulnerabilities with International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Star Rating protocols, which provide an objective measure of safety levels 'built in' to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Registration is required. The FHWA Center for Local Aid Support will provide a certificate of participation and a link to the recording post webinar. Simply select “yes” when prompted during registration.

If you have any questions about this upcoming webinar, please contact Morgan Malley or CLAS@dot.gov.

Grant Toolkit LTAP

Innovative Tools for Transportation Data Collection
and Sharing in Tribal Communities | Dec. 10, 2024

On behalf of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), AEM Corporation is leading NCHRP 20-24(146) Guide to Supporting and Sustaining Transportation Grant Programs for Local Governments and Tribes. For this project, we are conducting research to develop resources, tools, and guidance for local governments and tribes to successfully manage the full lifecycle of grant programs.

As part of this research, we are hosting a 90-minute virtual information gathering session with local governments and tribes to identify and discuss what resources they rely on, challenges they encounter, and major gaps in information and resources when applying for and managing grant projects.

We are targeting participation from a wide range of local and tribal agencies, specifically those who have not been successful in securing grant funding and those who have never applied for a grant due to limited information, knowledge, or resources.

Agencies participating in this workshop will clarify their needs and generate valuable information that will inform the development of a “Grants Toolkit for Local and Tribal Agencies” that they can use to be successful in securing and managing grant projects.
