Motorists in southeastern Arizona - especially those who live just north of Clifton and Morenci - are being asked to avoid using US 191 between Morenci and Alpine during the current winter storm and wait for Arizona Department of Transportation plows to clear snow from the highway.
ADOT also reminds motorists that its snowplows operate during daylight hours only.
Because US 191 is closed about 7 miles north of the entrance to the Morenci Mine, residents north of the closure could encounter especially difficult conditions on US 191 between the closure (milepost 177) and Alpine (milepost 253) until snow has been cleared.
Before heading out, motorists can get real-time highway conditions on ADOT's Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov or by calling 511.
