  • WILL YOUR LICENSE FLY? – More people are asking about the Travel ID than ever before. That’s probably because October 1, 2020 is getting closer by the day. That date is when the Transportation Security Administration will implement new, more rigorous ID requirements for air travelers. That means you will need a federally-compliant ID to get through an airport security checkpoint and other federally-controlled sites such as federal buildings.

The MVD offers the Travel ID, a driver license or ID card that meets the federal requirements. You can make an appointment at servicearizona.com to come to an MVD office to get your Travel ID. Many Authorized Third Party offices can perform this service, too.

In order to get your Travel ID, you will need to bring a form of ID such as birth certificate or valid US Passport. Your current standard driver license will not suffice. You also need to bring something with your Social Security number and TWO documents that prove you’re an Arizona resident such as a utility bill, bank statement or similar document with your current address. If you’ve changed your name, please bring documentation to demonstrate that.

For a complete list of acceptable documents and for more information, please visit www.azdot.gov/travelid.
