The Arizona Department of Transportation is continuing a project to reconstruct and improve the US 60 (Grand Avenue) frontage road between Greenway and Thunderbird roads in El Mirage.
Drivers who use the frontage road should plan on taking alternate routes while work is underway. The construction work will require the following closures and lane restrictions along the Grand Avenue frontage road starting Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019:
- The eastbound lane of the Grand Avenue frontage road is scheduled to be closed between Greenway Drive and Thunderbird Road beginning at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, and continuing through early spring 2019, for reconstruction work. DETOUR: Drivers who would normally use the eastbound frontage road should consider using Greenway, Dysart and Thunderbird roads.
Drivers will continue to have access to the westbound lane of the frontage road between Thunderbird and Greenway roads during this stage of the project. Access to area businesses will be maintained during normal business hours. A closure of the frontage road’s westbound lane will occur during a future phase of work.
The purpose of the work is to reconstruct and resurface the frontage road; add new curbs, gutters, signs and enhanced lighting; complete lane striping; and improve landscaping.
In addition, crews will add a section of decorative fencing along westbound Grand Avenue parallel to the BNSF Railway tracks and will improve the Acoma Drive connection to Grand Avenue.
ADOT is partnering with the city of El Mirage on the $4 million project. More information about the new frontage road improvements is available by visiting the project’s website.
