The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists that Honeycutt Road will be closed between State Route 347 and Pershing Street in Maricopa for the next several months, beginning Thursday morning, Dec. 6.
The Honeycutt Road restriction is expected to remain in place until summer 2019.
Honeycutt Road will remain open except for the short distance between Pershing Street and SR 347, which will be closed to traffic. Access will be maintained to nearby businesses, as well as to Pershing Street.
The closure is needed to allow work to continue on the new SR 347 overpass that will span the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway (MCGH).
When the traffic restriction goes into effect on Dec. 6, ADOT will open a newly built road – Plainview Street – to help drivers navigate around the construction area.
Following are the recommended detours to access Honeycutt Road:
Eastbound travel:
- Proceed to MCGH from SR 347
- Turn north on the new Plainview Street (located west of the Maricopa Unified School District building)
- Proceed east on Honeycutt Road
Westbound travel:
- From Honeycutt Road, turn south on the new Plainview Street (located west of the Maricopa Unified School District building) to MCGH
- Proceed northwest on MCGH to SR 347
Construction activity will begin to pick up significantly as the $55 million overpass project enters into its second phase.
Crews will widen and add new sidewalks, curb and gutter to the south side of Honeycutt Road. Workers will also begin rebuilding a segment of the road that will connect with a realigned section of SR 347, once the overpass is built.
In addition, a new signalized intersection at SR 347 and Honeycutt Road will be built near the end of phase two of the project.
