Drivers who use Interstate 17 in Phoenix and north of the
Valley should plan for multiple, short intermittent closures of north- and
southbound travel lanes and overnight closures of nearby on- and
off-ramps while overhead utility work is underway between 9 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 29, and 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30.
Several 15-to-20-minute closures are scheduled to occur
along I-17 at Osborn Road and near the community of New River north of Phoenix.
Also: Multiple connecting ramps along I-17 in Phoenix are scheduled to be
closed for the duration of the utility work (Saturday night to Sunday morning).
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists
to plan for the following restrictions and consider alternate routes:
I-17 and Osborn Road, Phoenix
- I-17 will be closed in both directions up to 11
times between Thomas and Indian School roads, with each closure lasting up to
20 minutes.
- The temporary closures are scheduled to
occur at approximately 11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Saturday, and 12:30 a.m., 1:15
a.m., 2 a.m., 2:45 a.m., 3 a.m., 3:45 a.m., 4:30 a.m., 5:15 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Sunday. Exact times are subject to change.
In addition, the following ramps will be closed for the
duration of the utility work:
- The east- and westbound I-10 ramps to northbound
I-17 (drivers should use 35th Avenue instead)
- The eastbound I-10 off-ramp at 27th Avenue
- The westbound I-10 on-ramp at Seventh Avenue
- The northbound I-17 on-ramps at McDowell and
Thomas roads (the northbound I-17 frontage road will remain open)
- The southbound I-17 on-ramp and frontage road at
Indian School Road
I-17 near New River, Maricopa County
- I-17 will be closed in both directions up to seven
times near New River, with each closure lasting up to 20 minutes.
- The temporary closures are scheduled to occur at
approximately 11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Saturday, and at 12:30 a.m., 1:15
a.m. 2 a.m., 2:45 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Exact times are subject to
change.
- The southbound on-ramp at New River Road and the
northbound on-ramp at Anthem Way will close for up to 20 minutes at a time
while work is underway.
Law enforcement officers will be prepared to slow or stop
traffic as needed in both locations.
Crews from APS and Cox Communications are scheduled to move
overhead power and communications lines, which requires temporarily halting all
traffic in the work zones. ADOT reminds drivers to slow down, obey law
enforcement officers and traffic control devices and use caution around utility
personnel and equipment.
