Plan for lane restrictions on Interstate 8 in Yuma near California border beginning Monday, Aug. 6

Crews installing "weigh in motion" sensors for commercial vehicles

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers who use Interstate 8 in Yuma to plan for the following lane restrictions near the California border early next week:

  • I-8 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction near milepost 2 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7. The work zone is located 2 miles east of the Colorado River overpass at the Arizona-California border.

Crews are scheduled to install traffic sensors in the roadway in conjunction with a project to construct a “weigh-in-motion” system for commercial vehicles that drive into the state. The embedded sensors can determine the approximate weight of commercial vehicles to confirm they comply with state and federal vehicle-weight requirements.

Motorists should be prepared to merge safely into the open travel lane and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
