US 191 closed near St. Johns for roadway project

Delays from detour anticipated to be minimal

Motorists using US 191 in northeastern Arizona over the next several months will use a detour near St. Johns as a 3-mile segment of the highway has been closed to make necessary roadway improvements.

US 191 is currently closed between Cemetery and Generating Station roads - between mileposts 317 and 320 - just south of the SRP Coronado Generating Station facility.

The following are the designated detour routes:

  • Motorists traveling northbound on US 191 (approaching St. Johns from the south): Exit onto US 180 and travel west for less than a mile, then take the 2nd West exit. Continue driving north on 2nd West/County Road 6350 to reconnect with northbound US 191.
  • Drivers traveling southbound on US 191 (approaching St. Johns from the north): Exit onto County Road 6350/2nd West and head south to US 180. From the US 180, travel east to the southbound US 191 turnoff.
  • Detour signage is in place to direct motorists around the highway closure. Delays from the detour are anticipated to be minimal.

The full closure is needed to reconstruct and repave this portion of the highway as well as install a pipe culvert. US 191 is scheduled to fully reopen this summer.
