Motorists should plan for extra travel time on State Routes 260 and 273 during pavement preservation project in White Mountains

Delays up to 30 minutes expected

Drivers using SR 260 and SR 273 in the White Mountains area should plan for extra travel time beginning this week as delays up to 30 minutes are expected due to an Arizona Department of Transportation pavement preservation project.

Covering nearly 40 miles, the road work is scheduled to be done from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the following two weeks in May:

  • Wednesday, May 9 through Friday, May 11 on SR 260 west of Hon-Dah: Beginning at milepost 361, crews will continue east on SR 260 to milepost 378, just past the junction with SR 273.
  • Monday, May 14 through Thursday, May 17 on SR 273 at the junction with SR 260: The work will cover the entire 20-mile stretch of SR 273, from milepost 377 to milepost 397.

Traffic on both state roads will be narrowed to one lane of alternating travel while crews apply an oil-based surface sealant on the roadways. Flaggers and a pilot car will direct drivers through the work zone.

ADOT crews plan to close 5- to 7-mile segments of roadway at a time. This will enable sections of the road to reopen as crews complete work and move on to other segments. The roads will fully reopen to two lanes of travel every evening after crews finish for the day.
