As the Arizona Department of Transportation begins the
second phase of construction for the Interstate 8 and Araby Road traffic
interchange improvement project, drivers should plan for closures and
restrictions in the project area.
Work is scheduled to start in May, when
contractors begin excavating for an underground storm water system and
retaining wall. ADOT is building the second roundabout at I-8 and Araby Road on
the south side of the intersection. This phase of the project is scheduled for
completion in fall 2018.
A three-month closure of the eastbound I-8 off-ramp at Araby
Road (SR 195) is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 16. On the following
day, Gila Ridge Road is scheduled to close for 30 days and Araby Road will be
reduced to one lane in both directions for three months.
Yuma drivers should plan to use detour routes and allow
plenty of extra travel time while these restrictions are in place:
- Gila Ridge Road west of Araby Road at the
Tanimura and Antle Produce building will be closed in both directions for 30
days beginning Wednesday, May 16.
- Araby Road will be reduced to one lane in both
directions between 30th and 26th streets for three months beginning Thursday,
May 17.
- No left turns will be permitted on Gila Ridge
Road while construction is underway. Drivers can access businesses on Gila
Ridge Road by using Avenue 3E.
- An 11-foot vehicle width restriction will be in
place.
Alternate routes include Avenue 3E and 32nd Street. Drivers
should plan for heavy traffic, reduced speed limits and delays.
