Ajo Way/State Route 86 is scheduled to
close over Interstate 19 from early Friday, March 2, to early Monday, March 5.
The full closure is necessary so crews can install new traffic
signals and roadway striping for the new interchange configuration.
No vehicles or pedestrians will be allowed to cross the bridge
over I-19.
Motorists must use an alternate route, such as Irvington Road.
Pedestrians will be directed south to the Michigan Street foot
bridge. The pedestrian detour will remain in effect for about two weeks as
crews remove temporary pavement and install new sidewalks near the interchange.

Because of the total closure of Ajo Way, the following
restrictions will also be enforced:
- All traffic on eastbound Ajo Way must exit to southbound I-19.
- All traffic on westbound Ajo Way must exit to northbound I-19.
-
The northbound I-19 off-ramp to Ajo Way will be closed.
- The southbound I-19 off-ramp to Ajo Way will be closed.
All work is scheduled to be complete by 5 a.m. Monday, March 5,
when the interchange is set to open in its new configuration. While work on
phase one of the interchange project is nearly complete, some cleanup work will
continue into early April.
Drivers should always proceed through the work zone with
caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
