The
Arizona Department of Transportation advises Tucson-area drivers to plan for
the following restrictions as construction on State Route 86 (Ajo Way)
continues between Valencia and Kinney roads:
Traffic
on State Route 86, west of San Joaquin Road, will be stopped intermittently in
both directions from 6 a.m. to 4p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 2, through Friday,
May 5, to allow trucks to cross the roadway. Drivers should watch for flaggers
in the area and be prepared to stop.
Tucson
Estates Parkway at State Route 86 is closed around the clock through May to
construct and pave the new intersection and roadway to the north.
- Traffic on SR 86 will be
detoured to Kinney Road and onto Bopp Road.
- Access to Tucson Estates
Parkway will be via Bopp Road or Camino Verde.
- There will be a “Road
Closed to Through Traffic” sign with space provided for local traffic to
enter.
Traffic
on SR 86 has been shifted to the north side of the roadway at Camino Verde.
- Crews
and traffic devices will guide drivers through the work zone.
- Business
access is not affected.
Sunset Boulevard, just south of SR 86, is closed around the clock
through May 2017.
- Drivers
on SR 86 are using Kinney Road to Irvington Road to access Sunset Road.
-
Drivers
on Sunset Road are using Irvington Road to Kinney Road to access SR 86.
The
turnoff from SR 86 to Old Ajo Way, east of Camino Verde (near milepost 164) is
permanently closed. The closure is for the construction of a new westbound
alignment that will provide better future access with the new Camino Verde
signalized intersection, when it is opened.
Access to Camino Verde and the Drexel Heights Fire Station will always remain
open.
