The Arizona Department of Transportation is beginning the next phase of a pavement preservation project on I-17 between Dunlap and 19th avenues in Phoenix. The first in a series of weekend closures is scheduled to begin Friday, March 17, between Dunlap and Glendale avenues.
ADOT encourages drivers to allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes from 10 p.m. Friday, March 17, through 5 a.m. Monday, March 20, while the following closures are in place:
• Southbound I-17 will be closed between Dunlap and Glendale avenues for rubberized asphalt paving. DETOUR: Use the southbound I-17 frontage road or consider using State Route 51 or Loop 101. • On Dunlap and Northern avenues, the left-turn lanes and right lanes at I-17 will be closed for replacement of bridge fences.
I-17 will be closed in three-mile segments each weekend through the end of June. Only one direction will be closed at a time. Work is scheduled to occur on the southbound lanes first, followed by the northbound lanes.
No restrictions or closures will occur during the weekend of March 31-April 3 because of the NCAA Final Four basketball events or over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
