Sent on behalf of CALTRANS
The Arizona Department of Transportation wants motorists to be aware of this Caltrans project along Interstate 8 in California’s Imperial County:
EL CENTRO – Caltrans construction crews will begin major work in February on the first segment of the Interstate 8 Update project in Imperial County. Motorists planning to travel to Imperial County are advised to plan for delays.
Eastbound and westbound traffic will be shifted to the same side of the I-8 during various phases of the project and traffic will be significantly impacted during construction. Speed will be reduced in the work zone. The I-8 Update project is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
The $417 million project will reconstruct 48 miles of traffic lanes and shoulders. Work on the first ten-mile segment is in the vicinity of State Route 7. The I-8 Update is a five-segment project that will extend the life of the pavement and provide motorists with a smoother ride. Crews will use steel reinforcing bars placed within the concrete along the entire length of the pavement for greater strength and durability.
