Update to the Wasted/Expired Vaccine Returns Process
(VOMS 2.0)
The Bureau of Immunization Services (BIZS) is continually looking for ways to improve our office processes. As part of that work, we have transitioned to a new process to report and return (when applicable) wasted/expired doses through the VOMS 2.0 system. The pdf wasted/expired form will no longer be accepted.
All wasted/expired doses must be reported and processed through VOMS 2.0. In some circumstances, the doses must also be physically returned. Wasted/expired doses are first reported as such through the reconciliation page while reconciling your inventory. Once doses have been reconciled, if any doses were removed with a return category (e.g., spoiled, recall, or expired) they will need to be processed as a return in VOMS 2.0. The only exception to this is COVID-19 doses as COVID-19 doses do NOT need to be physically returned at this time. For step-by-step instructions on how to process returns in VOMS 2.0, please click here.
To help you familiarize yourself with this new process, if you have a user account in AIPO Train we will be assigning a course on Vaccine Returns in VOMS 2.0 for you to complete. This course is not required to be completed, but it is highly encouraged that you and your staff do complete it because reporting wasted/expired doses in ASIIS is a requirement. Additional job aids on VOMS 2.0 are available on the VFC resources page. Providers are required to account for all vaccines distributed through the BIZS in ASIIS.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility with these changes. We appreciate your partnership with the BIZS.
