BEMSTS: Updated Treat & Refer Resources for COVID-19

Bureau of EMS

July 8, 2020

Dear Arizona EMS and Trauma Stakeholder Community,

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and initiation of crisis standards of care in Arizona, ADHS BEMSTS is asking that EMS agencies implement a COVID Treat & Refer program to allow for leave-at-home and alternative destination referrals or transports. This package includes patient education handouts from the CDC that an agency can use and provide to patients, along with example scripting for EMS personnel to use on scene when explaining the process to patients. Implementation of a COVID-19 Treat & Refer guideline should only be taken with the approval of your administrative medical director in response to a surge of cases in your community. ADHS BEMSTS has updated three resources for the agencies participating in the Treat & Refer Program. These can be found in the Treat & Refer section on the COVID-19 EMS page

- COVID-19 EMS Patient Screening and Training Power Point - updated July 6, 2020

- COVID-19 EMS Alternative Destination Tool - updated July 6, 2020
- EMS Guideline for Care of Patients with Suspected COVID-19 - updated July 6, 2020

On behalf of all of us at the Bureau of EMS and Trauma System, we would like to express our appreciation for your service to our communities, and we look forward to helping you provide care to Arizonans affected by COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Gail H. Bradley, MD, FACEP, FAEMS                                    Terry Mullins
