March 25, 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ADHS BEMSTS is asking that EMS agencies apply for Treat & Refer status immediately. We have produced a package of documents that can help an agency and their Administrative Medical Director implement a Treat & Refer COVID program to allow for leave-at-home and alternative destination referrals or transports. This package includes patient education handouts from the CDC that an agency can use and provide to patients, along with example scripting for EMS personnel to use on scene when explaining the process to patients.
Implementation of a COVID-19 Treat & Refer guideline should only be taken with the approval of your administrative medical director in response to a surge of cases in your community.
- CDC Patient Education Handout
- Alternative Destination Tool
- Guideline for Care of Patients with Suspected COVID-19
- Dispatch Protocol
