COVID-19 Information for Child Care Providers
What do you need to know about Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Arizona child care settings?
These basic health care practices will help to prevent the spread of this and other respiratory illnesses:
The best ways to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses are to:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands).
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
A free webinar for schools and child care settings will be held on Wednesday March 4th at 2PM. See the attached flyer for details or go to the ADHS COVID-19 page.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing respiratory illness in people. Signs and symptoms, similar to the common cold or the flu, include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, fever, and general feeling of being unwell. For more information about coronaviruses please see coronavirus website.
As of March 3, 2020, there have been two adult cases of COVID-19 in Arizona. The Arizona Department of Health Services provides a helpful FAQ page with links to both general information and specific responses in place to manage the spread of this virus in the community.
If you have not traveled to areas currently affected by COVID-19, your risk of contracting the disease is lower. Both State and Federal health agencies are monitoring the incidence of this situation closely and provide regular updates to the public. Arizona’s coronavirus website will be updated with any pertinent information related to the disease spread in the community on a daily basis before 9:00 AM. The CDC is providing updates daily.
