Construction Begins on Gold Star Families Memorial Monument

at Arkansas State Capitol

Monument Scheduled for Completion This Fall

(LITTLE ROCK, ARK.) – Construction began this week on the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument on the grounds of the Arkansas State Capitol.  The monument will be located on the west side of the Capitol building.  This monument honors families of servicemen and women who have been killed during military service.  It acknowledges that the families have made sacrifices for our country, as well as their lost loved ones.

"This will be a place of reverence and peace, reflection and honor," said Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston.  "It is my hope that this will be a place for healing for the many families who have given so much to our country."

Construction is expected to be completed in late September. Some parking disruptions on the west side of the Capitol will occur during the construction period.

The monument was authorized by the state legislature through Act 281 of 2017.  All monuments on State Capitol Grounds must be approved through the legislative process.
