Fort Smith Police Release Video Related to May 17 Shooting

Fort Smith, AR - The Fort Smith Police Department is releasing video related to the May 17, 2026, incident in which Joshua Keller shot Officer Kyle Newman.

We remain deeply grateful that Officer Newman survived his injuries. This incident is a sobering reminder of the dangers officers can face while serving our community.

Prosecuting Attorney Dan Shue has determined that Officers Newman, Martz, Grayham, and Tabor were justified in their use of deadly force to stop Mr. Keller.

A substantial amount of video related to this incident still requires processing. The department is also conducting an internal review to determine whether applicable policies and procedures were followed. That review remains ongoing and is separate from the prosecutor’s determination regarding the officers’ use of deadly force.

The video released today represents only a portion of the footage associated with this incident. We recognize the public’s interest in understanding what happened and will provide additional information as the review and video processing continue.
