Fort Smith Police Arrest Two in Overnight Shooting That Left Woman Critically Injured
Fort Smith, AR - At approximately 11:06 PM on Sunday, June 15, the Fort Smith Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block of Zero Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a 32-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. A 33-year-old male, who had placed the 911 call, was also on scene with a vehicle showing multiple bullet holes on the passenger side.
Upon further investigation, we identified 36-year-old Anthony Don Nichols and 27-year-old Austin Lee Williams, both parolees, as the suspects.
On Monday morning at approximately 10 AM, Fort Smith Police SWAT executed a search warrant at an address in the 1500 block of South 17th Street. Both subjects were taken into custody from that location without further incident.
Williams faces one count of Battery in the First Degree - Firearm Class B Felony. Nichols was arrested on drug-related charges unrelated to the shooting but charges are pending.
We would like to thank the public and our media partners for their patience as this situation developed, as well as the Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for their swift assistance in securing the warrants.
