National Distracted Driving Mobilization
April 7-14, 2025:
📵 Put the Phone Away or Pay 📵 Fort Smith, AR — April 7-14, 2025
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching a national high-visibility enforcement effort to deter distracted driving—and the Fort Smith Police Department is on board.
Officers will be actively enforcing texting and distracted-driving laws during this time. This initiative coincides with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a reminder that no text or notification is worth a life.
🚨 Distracted driving is dangerous and deadly. Stay focused behind the wheel.
Here are some helpful tips to stay safe:
✅ If you're expecting a message or need to send one that can’t wait, pull over and park in a safe location before using your device. ✅ Ask your passenger to be your “designated texter.” Let them handle calls or messages so you can focus on the road. ✅ Never scroll or message on social media while driving. ✅ If you're tempted to use your phone, silence notifications, turn on “Do Not Disturb,” or place your phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat until you reach your destination.
Let’s work together to make our roads safer. Drive smart. Drive focused.
