Fort Smith Streets Department Installs Two 'Right‑Turn Only' Signs at South 66th Street and Rogers Avenue, Enforcement Effective Immediately
Fort Smith, AR - The City of Fort Smith Streets & Traffic Control Department has installed two new “Right‑Only” traffic signs on northbound South 66th Street at Rogers Avenue to eliminate unsafe left‑turn and straight‑through movements toward the Andy’s Frozen Custard driveway.
Effective immediately, the Fort Smith Police Department will actively enforce compliance with the new traffic directive.
Recent crash data revealed this intersection as the city’s second‑highest for collisions, with 11 total accidents due to left turn and through-movements at this intersection in the last 12 months.
“Data clearly showed that left turns and through-movements at this location significantly increased crash risk,” said Fort Smith Chief of Police Danny Baker. “We appreciate the Streets Department’s swift installation of these signs, and our officers will ensure motorists obey them to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and nearby businesses.”
Drivers traveling northbound on South 66th Street must now turn right onto Rogers Avenue; those seeking access to the Andy’s Frozen Custard driveway should use alternate routes.
