ARREST NOTICE
Fort Smith Police Release Body Camera in Jan. 12 Disorderly Conduct Arrest at Albert Pike and Kelley Highway
Fort Smith, AR - On Sunday, Jan. 12, at approximately 5:30 PM, a Fort Smith Police Patrol Officer was on his way to a call when he observed an individual repeatedly jump into traffic at Albert Pike Avenue and Kelley Highway, potentially causing harm to himself and passing motorists.
The Officer pulled over and approached the man, who exhibited signs of intoxication unrelated to alcohol. The Officer attempted to make an arrest, but the individual first tried to access his patrol vehicle and then struck the Officer in the face when he was unsuccessful at doing so.
This initiated a brief standoff between the two as the man lay down, refused to comply with verbal commands, and continually resisted efforts toward an arrest. The incident continued until other Officers arrived and were able to assist in detainment.
The individual was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Please see the attached body camera video for full context. Following standard department policy, the incident will be reviewed at all levels of Command to ensure proper procedures were followed during the incident. More information may be released when available and appropriate.
