Fort Smith, AR – In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, the Fort Smith Police Department is reaffirming its commitment to supporting mental health and crisis intervention within our community. With 78% of our officers Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)-certified, the department is well-equipped to assist individuals experiencing mental health crises and connect them with the appropriate resources.
“Our officers are prepared to handle mental health emergencies, and through our Crisis Intervention Unit, we ensure that individuals in need receive compassionate and effective care,” said Captain Steven Creek, Special Operations.
The Crisis Intervention Unit can be reached at 479-709-5144 or via email at ciu@fortsmithpd.org. While these are non-emergency contact methods, individuals experiencing an immediate crisis should always dial 911.
Additionally, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available for anyone seeking immediate mental health support.
The Fort Smith Police Department remains committed to serving and safeguarding our community, particularly those in need of mental health assistance.
