FSPD ARREST RELEASE
Two Fort Smith arrestees sentenced to a combined 60 years for fentanyl-related crimes
Fort Smith, AR - On Wednesday, June 5, the Fort Smith Police Department learned of two sentences totaling 60 years involving subjects that FSPD narcotics officers arrested earlier in 2024.
Orlando Salas was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking fentanyl and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident on Feb. 14. Salas was sentenced to 32 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections with an additional 18 years suspended.
In a separate case, Devonta Hoes was arrested and charged on Feb. 6 with delivery of fentanyl, simultaneous possession of firearms and drugs, and tampering with evidence. Hoes pled guilty and received sentences of 28 years for the fentanyl delivery and possession charges with 12 years suspended on each count. He also received 6 years for the tampering charge.
The Department would like to thank our community for their support of these specialized investigations, as well as the Sebastian County Prosecutor's Office for their collaborative efforts in ensuring significant repercussions for these crimes. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl were involved in over 73,800 overdose deaths in 2022 - a staggering 7.5x increase since 2015, according to the CDC. Fentanyl is also finding its way into other substances, such as heroin, benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and cocaine, making all substance use increasingly risky.
To report any suspected fentanyl selling or distribution in our area, please call 479-709-5000 or 911 for emergencies. Working together, we can save lives and make our community a safer place.
Devonta Hoes, 27
